The speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga confirms her big impact in Museveni’s stay in power. She says president Museveni would by now be preparing to go back to Rwakitura.
While appearing on a local TV on Monday 17th-2020. The speaker says she played a big role in extending Museveni’s presidency. In 2017 Kadaga did the needful to remove the Age limit cap from the 1995 constitution.
Museveni would be heading to Rwakitura if I didn’t help him – Kadaga
If it was not the removal of the Age limit? Museveni would be heading to Rwakitura, Kadaga says.
Kadaga asked the NRM members to recognize her effort in amending the constitution in 2017. And so they should re-elect her as NRM 2nd national vice chairman.
Speaking at state house where members of CEC were vetting candidates. ”I facilitated the amendment under very strenuous circumstances. For that surely I deserve a reward, she notes.
Surprisingly, Kadaga facilitated the amendment of the constitution under article 102b to enable NRM ideologies to continue. But our big issue was national chairman to continue leading the country after the end of the present term.
”I have demonstrated my commitment to the party throughout…I have enacted all the necessary legislation and I have been available for work in the party throughout” she says.
In 2017 MPs mainly from NRM voted to amend the constitution which favors Museveni in 2021. President Museveni will be 76 in 2021 but this wont stop him to contest for 6th term as a president. Prior to this amendment, article 102b barred anyone from contesting for the presidency. But only if you were between 35-75 years of Age.
This automatically would have put Museveni out of the race for the presidency in 2021. In a video that went viral MPs exchanged blows and many got injured. This was later cooled down by security guards at parliament. Lastly Kadaga did it.
