Police fire teargas to disperse Bobi Wine supporters: Police fire teargas to disperse Bobi Wine supporters:
Police in Mbale City on Wednesday fired teargas to disperse NUP supporters. The National Unity Platform (NUP) party diehards were gathering outside Mbale High Court.
The NUP supporters were waiting for the head of the party who is also Kyaddondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi. Kyagulanyi was scheduled to attend the hearing of a case in Mbale High Court on 26 Aug 2020. The NUP party sued the IGP, Mr Martin Ochola and other security officers for blocking Kyagulanyi’s radio talk show.
But Police used teargas to disperse the supporters for reportedly violating COVID-19 SOPs.

The supporters converging outside court as early as 7am waiting for Kyagulanyi Clad in red garments. However, the supporters spent most of time chanting various people power slogans with out distancing themselves. But this did not stop the police to act accordingly due to COVID-19 and to have order at the court.
Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, Mr Rogers Taitika, says they used reasonable force to control the crowd but all in vein. And as our work is to keep law and order we had to change in action.
The crowd was violating the COVID-19 control SOPs. We tried to talk to them to leave the court but in vain, Mr Taitika says.
First of all they know the current situation in the world as per COVID-19. And there is no big issue why the security personnel should clash with the public.
Secondly, as the president said no public gathering but a normal person goes on to oppose it. So we have to enforce the needful.
Currently, Uganda has 2524 cases and 26 deaths which is scaring the country. But many locals especially in the cities they say that this is a stunt because of politics, Mr Rogers says.
