Arsenal are now planning to officially announce their new signing before the end of the week. Gabriel is expected to form a new look partnership alongside William Saliba at the heart of Arsenal’s defence.

However, after spending last season on loan at Saint-Etienne, Saliba is now training with Arsenal. Saliba delivered a solid performance in a pre-season friendly against MK Dons on Tuesday.

Surprisingly, Gabriel after impressing Arsenal scouts so much that he was on top of their recommendation list. Arsenal scouts submitted the list to the club’s hierarchy ahead of the summer transfer window.

Lille president Gerard Lopez notes that Gabriel is among the top five dominant central defenders in Europe right now. His statistics, which are not well on the record outside France show is great.

Secondly, the experience he has from French league 1 makes him to be one of the best. More so his percentage for winning duels is pretty unheard of in a league that is extremely physical.

Lastly, an absolute machine, so to me, he’s well on his way if not this year to potentially a really big club. I’m certain he is on his way to the Brazilian national team at some point, Lopez notes.
