Abel Kagumire has been appointed as the new Commissioner in charge of Customs at Uganda Revenue Authority.
According to a statement by Uganda Revenue Authority Board of Directors. Kagumire is among the three commissioners who excelled well in written interviews conducted by the staff committee early this week.
The statement says URA Board of Directors at its 4th/2020 Special Board meeting held today the 26th August, 2020. They interviewed candidates for the vacant Senior Management positions in the Departments of Customs, Corporate Services and Domestic Taxes.
Consequently, URA names Richard Kariisa as the new commissioner for Corporate Services. And John Tinka Katungwensi as the Assistant Commissioner in charge of the large taxpayers’ office.

But the candidates on the shortlist for remaining positions will be interviewed by the Board of Directors on August 28 2020. And these positions are, AC Human Resource, AC Trade and AC Business policy which are still vacant.
In May, four senior staff members at URA resigned from their positions. They including the commissioner in charge of domestic taxes, Dicksons Kateshumbwa, Henry Saka, the Commissioner in charge of tax investigations and others.
Surprisingly, the four senior staff say they resigned willingly not as reports say. However reports say it was a force out resignation after implicating them in a number of scandals.
Speaking about their resignation, the URA board of directors says it was ready to staff a new era of integrity.
He continues that Management wishes to reiterate that integrity. But patriotism and professionalism will define the new era at URA developing Uganda together.
